This is a well made leather encased measuring tape. The stitching on the leather is straight and even. One of the reasons I purchased it was because one review stated that it was made in Germany. The part that is made in Germany is the measuring tape inside the leather covering. The covering is made in China. Leatherology is an American company based in Texas that has outsourced their products to China. Their website says they own their own factory and have strict quality control, which is evident by their product. The good news about the measuring tape itself is that I have one just like it that I bought years ago at a fabric store and it still works perfectly, retracting quickly and completely when the button is compressed.
